Most photography on this website and in the BortleBuddy app comes from Pexels, under the Pexels License. That licence does not require attribution. We name the photographers anyway, because someone stood outside in the cold to take these.
The remaining photographs are our own.

Astronomy imagery in the app
The deep-sky object photographs shown on the target pages are credited individually, under each picture, inside the app. Several of them require it: they are published under Creative Commons licences that ask for the photographer to be named. The full list is in the app under Menu → Acknowledgements, and the per-image credit sits under the photograph itself, which is where that obligation is actually met.
Those sources include NASA, ESA, ESO, NOIRLab and individual astrophotographers publishing under CC BY, CC BY-SA and CC0.
Still to be filled in
A handful of older background images on this site and in the app were added before we kept this record, and their source was not written down at the time. We are identifying them. If you recognise your work on this site, please write to support@bortlebuddy.com and we will credit it or remove it, whichever you prefer.
